HERBALISM & NATUROPATHY

Herbalism has a history that stretches back to the ancient world.  As a species we have grown and evolved alongside the plant world, utilising and harvesting plants to survive.  Herbal medicine taps into the inherent intelligence of nature, and helps to return the body to balance.

As a naturopathic practitioner, I take a ‘whole person’ approach to healing, and work hard to get to the root cause of problems. This is done by thorough case-taking into past and present health concerns, diet and lifestyle, as well as using pulse taking, iridology and tongue examination to build up the complete picture on a physical and energetic level.

If it is appropriate, further laboratory testing can be organised. For example, adrenal functioning tests, parasite tests, helicobacter pylori. As a herbalist I have been trained to understand the interactions between prescription medication and herbs.  Herbal medicine can work alongside orthodox medicine.  Most conditions treated by a GP can be treated with herbs.

Herbal medicines are prepared from a wide range of high grade herbs, depending on the specific requirements of the patient. This may be in the form of tinctures, capsules, fluid extracts, teas, syrups or ointments. Alongside the herbal prescription, lifestyle and nutritional advice will also be given, empowering you with the tools you need to restore and balance your health.

Treatments

The initial consultation takes between an hour and an hour and a half.  It is either done online via Zoom, or from my consulting room.

During this session I will ask you lots of questions, firstly about the health concern that has brought you to seek help, but also about your diet, medical history, other physical systems and lifestyle.

I will take your Chinese and Ayurvedic pulse, look into your eyes with an iridoscope, and also look at your tongue.

I prefer not to make up the prescription then and there, but rather to think quietly about your case, and get the herbs to you a few days later, along with an advice sheet which we can discuss over the phone.

A follow up session is recommended 3 to 4 weeks later for most cases.  If acute symptoms are being treated, a follow up is recommended after 10 days.
